Last night I started to irrationally worry that the part in my book where Bennett and I, unemployed and at loose ends in the winter of 2003, volunteered to walk dogs at BARC might dissuade someone from volunteering to walk dogs at BARC.   This would be awful. Everyone who lives around here should walk dogs at BARC or visit their cat loft (CAT LOFT).  People who don’t live around here should give BARC money.  I’m not (just) saying this because I feel guilty.  It is actually fun to walk dogs at BARC, way more fun than I made it out to be.

I had no idea they had a cat loft, I totally have to do this.  BARC is a great organization; many of the dogs they shelter have come from broken homes and have been abused.  Some can’t be adopted out and often, the dogs live at BARC for the duration of their life.  As a volunteer, you get to walk the dogs in Williamsburg for an hour or so.  I have walked dogs there a couple of times and I love it.  Usually I grab a coffee, go after yoga and take a stroll to McCarren Park.
Highly recommend.

The bf and I want a dog but are in no position - money or time-wise - to have one, so we will definitely be looking into this. And hell, maybe I’ll even check out this catloft thing. I miss my old roommate’s cat.

I love BARC! They are a great organization and the people there are really nice too!  I got Pacha there 2.5 years ago and I still talk to the volunteer who helped me. I wish I lived a bit closer because I would love to volunteer there too
